Days of heavy rain caused floods along the Yangtze River and its tributaries, forcing the evacuation of 1.34 million local residents, according to Xinhua. As the severity of the flooding worsened, members of the People’s Armed Police were dispatched on flood relief missions, contributed greatly to ongoing rescue operations.
