Editor's Note:
Amid soaring imported COVID-19 cases in China, the international airports in the country have come to play an increasingly important role in the coronavirus pandemic containment. In the departure lounge of Beijing Capital International Airport, GT reporter, on Monday, noticed the number of travelers plunged significantly. Airline staffers screen the body temperature of every passenger.
Chinese nationals studying overseas are returning to China in large numbers as the pandemic worsens in many countries. A Chinese student surnamed Zhang who returned from France told GT, though she has been experiencing cough for over a month, she was only prescribed azithromycin on seeing a doctor there. Zhang declared her symptoms at the custom upon arrival in Beijing and was transferred to the Beijing Ditan Hospital. Many passengers arriving at the airport were holding CT chest radiographs while collecting their luggage.
