Editor's Note:
14-year-old guide dogs Fangyun and Tazhang have been seeking new owners since they retired in 2016, are apparently finally getting a new home. They’ve been living at a training center for a new generation of guide dogs for the last four years, as people have been reluctant to adopt because of their advanced age. They still like to go for walks but are sometimes unsteady and tire easily. Seeing-eye dogs have been trained in Shanghai since 2008 and Fangyun and Tazhang were among the first. Currently 37 guide dogs are in service in Shanghai, Zhu Jun, a trainer from a Shanghai guide dogs training center told the Global Times on Sunday. While there are more than 17 million visually impaired people in China, there are only about 200 working guide dogs nationwide, Zhu said. (Photos: Chen Xia/GT)
