Editor's Note:
Railway stations and airports in Shanghai have tightened their pandemic prevention measures for the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, which kicks off on Thursday, to ensure safe and smooth travel. Passengers are required to have their temperatures checked and wear face masks while taking public transportation.

At Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao Airport, a Global Times reporter observed passengers following the rules and moving in an orderly manner. To prevent COVID-19 risks during the holiday period, the nation has asked residents to stay put rather than travel back to their hometowns.

The total volume of passenger traffic is expected to be lower than 2019 (the last normal level recorded). The city is expected to see 35.7 million passenger trips, according to Shanghai municipal authorities. Photos: Chen Xia/GT
