Editor's Note:
Shanghai traffic was significantly reduced on Thursday – Chinese New Year's Eve – compared with normal levels due to COVID-19. Fewer people can be seen at Shanghai’s railway stations as many residents have chosen to stay put to support the epidemic prevention efforts. At downtown landmarks such as People’s Square, residents are enjoying the Chinese New Year atmosphere. The number of people staying put to celebrate the Chinese New Year increased by over 48 million compared with previous years in 36 major cities across the country, according to official data.
