Editor's Note:
Some Shanghai shopping malls and vending machines in subway stations are allowing customers to purchase products using digital yuan. In a shopping mall in downtown Shanghai, consumers can pay via a vending machine which allows customers to purchase products using digital yuan. The customer can click on selected products and then scan a QR code to pay. Shanghai, along with Beijing, East China’s Suzhou and South China’s Shenzhen have all made commitments to testing the digital currency, as China moves closer to launching a central bank digital currency, although a specific timetable has not been announced.
