Editor's Note:
More than 1,000 armed police officers and soldiers rushed to the parking lot of Zhengzhou Metro Line 5 to participate in track silt cleaning work on July 23. The Global Times reporter saw soldiers holding shovels and water pipes, clearing the slippery ground on both sides of the rails, and the area outside the rails covered by heavy silt. Many places needed to be dredged with their bare hands.

According to the current progress of emergency dredging work, it is expected that Line 5 can resume operation soon.

Line 5, which began service in May 2019, is one of the busiest subway lines in Zhengzhou. The extraordinarily rare downpour suddenly hit Zhengzhou on July 20, causing water to flood Line 5, and trapped more than 500 passengers and killed 12. Photos: Li Hao/GT
