Rescue efforts including large-scale drainage operations are still under way on Friday at Jingguang Tunnel, a flooded 2-km-long underpass, where numerous vehicles have been trapped since Tuesday in Zhengzhou, Central China's Henan Province following intense downpours in the city.

The Global Times learned that the entrance to the Jingguang Tunnel has basically been cleaned up, and the water in the depths of the tunnel is being pumped out.

Rescue workers said that the water conditions and the number of vehicles in the deepest part of the tunnel are still unclear, and it is difficult to predict whether there will be casualties. Photos: Li Hao/GT
