Editor's Note:
Shanghai students on Wednesday embraced their first day at school for the autumn semester, after the country released guidelines to reduce students’ burden of compulsory education, especially excessive homework and off-campus tutoring. Faculty members from the China Welfare Institute Nursery kindergarten started preparing for the school day several days ago. They welcomed students at the school gate and asked young children to wash their hands and took other preventive measures such as checking temperature and health codes before entering the campus. Teachers and kids played with water on the first school day as Shanghai still faces high temperatures. All teachers and students need to undergo 14-day health monitoring before entering school on Wednesday. (Photos: Chen Xia/Global Times)
