Editor's Note:
Shanghai students on Wednesday had their first day at school for the autumn semester, after the country released guidelines to reduce students’ compulsory education burden, especially from excessive homework and off-campus tutoring.

At the primary school affiliated to Shanghai No.1 Normal School, students took part in different after-school clubs including art and science on the first day. The school has provided over 60 different classes for students. They will normally participate in the events after school from 4:15 pm to 5:15 pm.

Also, at Shanghai Jincai North Secondary School, students can learn Kunqu Opera and drawing and can do sports at school. Photos: Chen Xia/GT
