China's 40-day Chunyun or Spring Festival travel rush kicks off

The first train of the 2023 Spring Festival travel rush in Beijing departed from Beijing West Railway Station on Saturday, also the first day of China's 40-day nationwide Spring Festival travel rush. This year is expected to see about 2.095 billion passenger trips made during the Spring Festival travel rush, up 99.5 percent from 2022 level, following the country optimizing its epidemic response measures and amid the release of pent-up travel demands. About 9.934 million passengers are expected to depart from Beijing during the travel rush.
