Editor's Note:
Prior to China's optimization of epidemic prevention and control measures and the surge of infections, Yixian county in Baoding, North China's Hebei Province, had begun to prepare for the possible COVID policy adjustment based on a judgment of the COVID-19 prevention and control situation. The county allocated 5 million yuan ($738,596) to medical institutions for upgrading fever clinics and equipment and provided 3 million yuan for medicine stocks, which include antipyretic and antiviral medicine. Tian Baili from the county hospital's emergency department told Global Times reporters that when the infections were at peak, more than two-thirds of hospitalized patients were COVID-19 patients, and the proportion has now dropped to one-third. Hospitalization numbers at county hospitals, township health centers and village clinics have passed the peak of COVID patients. Under the cooperation of the three-level joint diagnosis and treatment in counties and villages, doctors in each village conduct medical inspections door-to-door for the most at-risk members of the village every day and update the latest situation of the patients to the survey table shared on the county and village network. Zhang Xuefeng, a doctor in Nantai village, Yixian county, was as usual carrying medicine, notices of precautions, a stethoscope and other fundamental inspection instruments to visit several villagers who got sick on January 11, 2023.
