A new exhibition, "Common Rise of River and Sea: The Yangtze River and Maritime Civilization Exhibition of Fine Archaeological Relics," kicked off at the China Maritime Museum in the Shanghai suburb on Monday. It gathers 180 pieces of precious cultural relics from the collections of 41 museums and archaeological institutions from 13 provinces across China. Together, they show visitors how the shipping and culture of the Yangtze River were integrated with maritime civilization in history, and how this famous "golden waterway" of China has contributed, and will continue to contribute, to the development of the Maritime Silk Road as well as the prosperity of world civilization. The exhibition will open to the public on Tuesday, which also marks this year's China National Maritime Day. It is set to run until October 8. Photos: Lu Ting/GT
