Actors rehearsed the Chinese version of the play Les Misérables in Beijing on Tuesday before heading to Suzhou for preview events on January 19 and 20. The play, co-produced by Magnificent Culture and the Printemps des Comédiens Festival in France, will premiere in Beijing in January to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. Directed by renowned French director Jean Bélorini, the theater play also features Liu Ye from the National Theatre of China, along with many other famous actors from Kunqu and Peking opera troupes. Les Misérables is a landmark work by the French literary giant Victor Hugo, often described as "an encyclopedia of human suffering and a spiritual epic of humanity's yearning for goodness." The play's overall length exceeds three hours, aiming to convey the core and essence of the original work to the audience. (Photos: Li Hao/GT)
