China’s 40-day Spring Festival travel rush begins

China’s chunyun or Spring Festival travel rush for 2024, the world's largest annual human migration, begins on Friday when the train G6701 heading for Handan, North China’s Hebei Province, departed from Beijing West Station. The 40-day Spring Festival travel rush from January 26 to March 5 is expected to see a new record of 9 billion passenger trips. China's railways are expected to transport an average of 12 million passengers per day during this year's Spring Festival travel rush, totaling 480 million. 143,000 passenger trips are expected to be made via Beijing West Station on Friday and the station is expected to transport a total of 4.92 million passenger trips during the 40-day period.
