Editor's Note:
A new exhibition showcasing the ties between the de Gaulle family and the Chinese people opened on Wednesday at Beijing’s He Art Museum. The Great Footprints exhibition features photographs documenting the friendship across three generations. Former French President Charles de Gaulle, the great uncle of French photographer Gregoire de Gaulle, was the first Western leader to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China in 1964. Gregoire’s father, Bernard de Gaulle, played a significant role in Sino-French commercial relations with his historic trip to Beijing in the same year. Following his initial visit to China in 1978, Gregoire de Gaulle continued to visit the country, capturing the evolving landscape through his photographs. (Photos: Li Hao/GT)
