Editor's Note:
The Liangzhu Museum will host the "World Cultural Heritage in China" exhibition on July 6. Additionally, a final exhibition of the year, featuring Han Dynasty jade artifacts, is in the preliminary stages, the Global Times learned from the museum.
Dating back to July 2019, during the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the Liangzhu Archaeological Site was inscribed on the World Heritage List. This civilization, which originated from a culture of rice cultivation, demonstrates the wisdom of humanity through its deep integration into the essentials of daily living.
Liangzhu, located in the Yuhang District of Hangzhou, capital city of East China's Zhejiang Province, refers to "beautiful water island." Over 5,000 years ago, the Kingdom of Liangzhu reached its zenith in water management and jade craftsmanship, but eventually vanished into history. Rediscovered through diligent archaeological efforts, the resilient and unique Liangzhu civilization has captivated the hearts and minds of generations of cultural heritage protectors.
Since the World Heritage inscription, the Liangzhu Museum has intensified its research efforts. Themed as "Liangzhu Culture as evidence of the 5,000-year-old civilization of China," the museum features a special exhibition of precious cultural relics from the Liangzhu culture, including jade, stone tools, pottery and lacquer woodware, presenting a comprehensive and authentic display of the archaeological findings and the cultural heritage value of the Liangzhu site.
