Editor's Note:
Spanning 1,956 kilometers, the Qinghai-Xizang Railway is the highest and longest plateau permafrost railway in the world. Since its completion and operation in 2006, the 8th Battalion of the Lhasa Detachment of the Xizang Armed Police Corps has been committed to safeguarding this vital railway on the snowy plateau.
In the past 18 years, the Qinghai-Xizang Railway has transported a total of 37.6223 million passenger trips to and from Xizang and 8.92537 million tons of cargo in and out of Xizang, as of August 30.
Recently, Global Times reporters Liu Caiyu and Fan Wei visited the plateau to observe how the armed police have dedicated their careers to protecting Xizang's "lifeblood." (Photos: Liu Caiyu/GT)
