Directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Lau Wai-Kong (Andrew Lau), the new TV series Battle of Shangganling recounts the harrowing 43-day battle of Shangganling during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950–53). In its opening week, the series garnered an average rating of over 3%, making it the highest-rated show in its timeslot in China. Lau told the Global Times that the series is not just a war drama; its core message is anti-war. He hopes to highlight the brutality of war, inspiring viewers to value the hard-won peace and lives they enjoy today. (Photos: Li Hao/GT)
