This year marks the 140th anniversary of Liu Mingchuan's governance of Taiwan and the establishment of Taiwan as a province. General Liu Mingchuan, who was appointed as Taiwan's first governor, developed local transportation and education infrastructure, officially marking the beginning of Taiwan's modernization. On December 9, a cross-Straits event commemorating the 140th Anniversary of Liu Mingchuan's governance of Taiwan and cross-Straits calligraphy and painting exhibition opened at the Beijing Taiwan Guild Hall.
