From 10:01 to 10:02 am on Saturday, the city of Nanjing in East China’s Jiangsu Province paused for one minute of silence as air-raid sirens echoed across the city, marking China's 12th National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims to mourn the 300,000 victims of the Nanjing Massacre. At 10:01 am, traffic in the city center came to a standstill, pedestrians halted mid-step, and a shared silence settled over the streets—an unspoken tribute to lives lost 88 years ago.
