Editor's Note:
Monday marks the first day of the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) travel rush, or Chunyun in Chinese, the world's largest annual human migration. At Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao International Airport, the Global Times reporter saw travelers with luggage prepare to set off on their journeys. According to railway authorities in Shanghai, about 416,000 passenger trips are expected to be handled in the Shanghai area on Monday. As the Spring Festival holidays approach, passenger flows will gradually increase. February 14 is expected to be the peak, when daily railway passenger departures in the Shanghai area are expected to exceed 820,000. The 2026 Chunyun period is scheduled to run from Monday to March 13, for a total of 40 days. (Photos: Lu Ting/GT)
