On February 8, 2026, local time, the men's 5,000m speed skating final of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games was held in Milan, Italy. Chinese skater Liu Hanbin overtook his Japanese opponent during the race and posted a time of 6:24.25, setting a new best-ever Winter Olympic result for the Chinese delegation in this event. Norway's world record holder Sander Eitrem set a new Olympic competition record of 6:03.95 to win the gold medal.
