A major travel rush is underway in Shanghai as transport authorities ramp up services to ensure smooth journeys during the May Day holiday from May 1 to May 5. Passenger traffic across Shanghai’s railway network is projected to reach about 8.59 million trips between April 30 and May 6, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent. May 1 is expected to see the peak outbound flow, with around 800,000 travelers departing. At Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, one of the city’s busiest transport hubs, about 431,000 passengers are expected to depart that day. Photos: Lu Ting/GT
