On May 20, many places across China saw a surge in marriage registrations. At the marriage registration service center in Beijing’s Haidian district, 90-year-old Zhang Weiyu and 88-year-old Liu Yichun came to apply for a replacement marriage certificate. Both are retired employees of the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. They married in 1963 and have spent more than 60 years together. The two had known each other since high school. After graduating from college, they met again through work and have been together ever since. “I’m so happy today because I see so many young people here, full of vitality,” Zhang said.
