Recently, Yangshan honey peaches, hailed by consumers as the “Hermes of peaches,” have entered their peak harvest season. Known for their creamy yellow skin with a red blush, delicate flesh, and abundant juice, these peaches are a specialty of Yangshan township in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, and a nationally protected geographical indication product. In 2009, Yangshan honey peaches were praised by the US Wall Street Journal as “the most delicious peaches on earth.” The peaches benefit from the rich minerals in million-year-old volcanic ash soil and local climate conditions, producing fruit that is plump, richly fragrant, sweet without being cloying, and so juicy that honey-like juice seems to flow from it. Now, Yangshan honey peaches are sold year-round in China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative and Macao Special Administrative regions and are also steadily exported to other countries and regions, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
