Students and teachers at Shanghai Huangpu Luwan No.1 Central Primary School gathered on the school playground for a back-to-school “first lesson” themed event, where they received patriotic education and drew renewed motivation for the new school term. This September, about 1.85 million primary and secondary school students across Shanghai returned to campus. In the 2026 academic year, the city has opened 40 new primary and secondary schools, adding nearly 9,500 school places to further improve the distribution of educational resources.
