Editor's Note:
The Changchun Culture of Water Ecological Park, located in Changchun, Northeast China’s Jilin Province, was Changchun’s No.1 Water Purification Plant, established in 1932. After the original plant was relocated in 2015, the site was ecologically transformed in 2018. Centered on revitalizing industrial heritage, restoring the aquatic ecosystem, and rebuilding green space, the former urban water supply plant has been developed into a 350,000-square-meter “urban green lung” and ecological reception space that integrates ecological protection, cultural inheritance, and science education and leisure.
Ma’anshan Village had long relied on mining. In 2016, it was listed as an officially registered poor village in Jilin Province. Later, Jiutai District shut down the mines within its jurisdiction, and Ma’anshan Village worked to restore the environment, manage river channels, and build roads and bridges. Drawing on its ecological advantages, including a forest coverage rate of 53.6%, the village developed agriculture, cultural tourism, and related industries, transforming residents’ lives and achieving an ecological transition. In 2025, the average annual income of villagers reached 25,000 yuan ($3,735) per person.
