Popular US talk show host Larry King will return as the host of a Russian talk show next month, local media outlets reported Wednesday.

The former host of CNN's trademark show "Larry King Live" will begin his new career by hosting "Politics with Larry King" on " Russia Today (RT)," an English-language TV channel, The Hollywood Reporter said.

"Whether a president or an activist or a rock star was sitting across from him, Larry King never shied away from asking the tough questions, which makes him a terrific fit for our network," said the channel's editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan.

The new program will be on air on RT's US station, RT Americai, in June. It will be recorded in Washington D.C.

The popular interviewer's another show, "Larry King Now," also produced by RT and debuted on Hulu and Ora.TV in July 2012, will continue to be taped in its Los Angeles studio.

King, turning 80, stepped down from "Larry King Live" in 2010 after remaining on the scene for 25 years interviewing the powerful and famous. He has done more than 50,000 interviews during his 56 years of career.

King, talking about his new role, said that the show will break new ground, promising that he will not shy away from conflict and will try to give a voice to people shut out by other media outlets.

"I have interviewed every US president since Nixon, and lest people forget, I helped usher Ross Perot into the national conversation during the 1992 presidential contest," he said in a statement. "I appreciate the importance of providing a platform to those with real alternative visions for our country's future."
