Mauritius ranked best honeymoon destination

Mauritius island has confirmed its reputation as the best destination in the Indian Ocean region for wedding and honeymoon, results released last week by World Travel Awards (WTA) showed.

Mauritius won seven awards during the 21st edition of this most coveted awards in the tourism sector, ahead of Seychelles which won five awards, but behind Maldives that won ten including that of being the best destination.

Air Mauritius won the award for the best airline in the Indian Ocean, while at the same time the Mauritius International Airport was chosen as the best. It also won the award for best underwater diving.

The winners in Africa and the Indian Ocean are the latest to be announced by the World Travel Awards, after those in the Middle East, Europe and South America in the beginning of the year.

Announcement for the winners in the remaining regions of Asia- Oceania, North America and Carribean will be made before the grand finale on Nov. 29 in Marrakech, Morocco.

The World Travel Awards were created in 1993 to recognize, award and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the tourism industry.
