One of China's highly-anticipated film industry events, the annual Top 10 Chinese-Language Film Awards will take place in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in Southwest China's Guizhou Province on Tuesday.

The winners will be selected from a pool of 23 nominated movies that were shown in theaters in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2013.

After review by a jury made up of movie critics and industry insiders, 10 movies will be awarded at a grand awards ceremony.

Among the 23 films nominated for this year's event are popular or hot films such as Wang Kar-wai's The Grand Master, Ning Hao's No Man's Land, Zhao Wei's So Young and Lou Ye's Mystery.

According to media reports,  veteran Chinese director Xie Tieli, Taiwan director Lee Hsing and Hong Kong director Ng See-yuen have joined the event as consultants.

Although only at its second year, the event has become extremely popular not only with movie academies but also moviegoers.

So far, actress-turned director Zhao Wei's So Young, which won the top honor at the Golden Rooster Awards and the Hundred Flowers Awards in September, is the hottest candidate among the 23 selected.
