Editor's Note:

Each month the Global Times offers readers a list of last month's top selling books as suggestions for your bookshelf. List data is provided by Openbook, a leading research institute that collects data within the publishing industry. The company established its national book retail market monitoring system in 1998 and currently covers over 2,000 bookstores in China.

The only new face on the September list of fiction books is Surprise!-Life is Comedy, a companion piece to the popular online skit serial Surprise!. Clearly targeted at fans of the show, the book was written by two of its leading actors, telling how they rose to fame from nothing.

As for the non-fiction list, it sees two new books that hit shelves in September. The first, Sense of Participation, is a marketing playbook that has become a must-read for salesmen everywhere. Written by Li Wanqiang, the head of the sales department at Xiaomi, a domestic electronics company that has developed so fast over the past four years that this year it passed Apple to become the 2nd largest smartphone seller in China.

The Temple of Earth and I, isn't actually a new book, but it experienced a resurgence of popularity last month. Written by the famous late author Shi Tiesheng (1951-2010) and first published in 2011, the book is considered by many as one of China's best works of prose.

The children's book market finally sees some changes with the September list, with less Charlie IX and Dodomo books and more translated works. Guess How Much I Love You and Something from Nothing, both well-established foreign children's books, have now become favorites among children all over China.
