Zhang Meng's new exhibition The Wind Blows at the Today Art Museum in Beijing is a look back at the artist's 12-year art career, especially in the areas of new media and ink wash painting,

The most recent work at the exhibition - which is being curated by Lu Yinghua and Mao Danqing, who is also curator for the KOBE Biennale in Japan - is Fierce Tigers with Golden Chains which, after more than a year of effort, Zhang finished just a month prior to the exhibition's opening on Saturday.

According to Lu, the work is a reflection of Zhang's current work and mental state as viewers can easily see his sense of crisis and unease over his increasing fame in art circles.

Born in Tangshan, Hebei Province, in 1972, Zhang graduated from the Printmaking Department of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1992 and now works as the head of the university's Video Art Department.

One of Zhang's earliest video pieces, Mongolian Mountain, is a 26-minute long 3D animated film inspired by Down Syndrome.

He followed this work up with four more videos, Mongolian Bridge, Mongolian Sea, Mongolian Snow and Mongolian Cloud, which explores the dangers of virtual reality.

The exhibition is scheduled to run until October 10.
