Many communities in Shanghai have adopted advanced technologies including big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, to monitor traffic, livelihood and security, Shanghai Observer reported Monday. For example, fire hydrants use solar power to automatically monitor water temperature changes. Smoke alarms installed in the homes of elderly people are connected with their children's mobile and will immediately report to the police in the event of a fire. Basic information at commercial stores are also open to ordinary consumers to help them make product evaluations or complaints.
