Tight storytelling and Chinese traditional poem culture have made Chinese streaming giant Sohu TV's latest series
The Untold Stories of Tang Dynasty a major hit online.
The 20-episode period suspense series combines detective mysteries and stories related to the Chinese classic poetry anthology
Three Hundred Tang Poems.
So far six episodes have aired, receiving a total of more than 10 million views.
According to Cao Di, the series' producer, the Chinese "Sherlock Holmes" story will cover five cases altogether.
"Tang poems have had such a great influence on the Chinese people, they are now in our blood. So I wanted to build an IP brand to develop the stories behind these poems. In they end, though, the cases are still stories about human nature," Cao said.
