Guesthouses around the world are used to writing off small items that are often pilfered by guests, but a Shanghai hotel didn't hesitate to call the police after discovering a very dumb thief had walked out with his room's television.

Video from the hotel's security cameras shows a man dressed in black walking along a hallway carrying a large cloth bag. The bag is obviously very heavy as the man is off balance as he walks.

Another camera shows him entering the lobby and casually chatting with a female employee before exiting the hotel, according to the report of People.cn.

After he left, the hotel discovered the television set from the man's room was missing and called police. The man was quickly arrested as the police simply tracked him down using the personal information he used to register as a guest of the hotel.

Netizens couldn't believe the thief could be so stupid. "Did you forget the hotel has a record of your ID," wrote a netizen on Sina Weibo that received a lot of nods in agreement.

Another netizen recalled that when he stayed at a hotel in Shenzhen 20 years ago, the hotel did a thorough check of every item in his room before he was allowed to check out.
