A French musical that recalls the legendary life of diva Edith Piaf kicked off at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center in Beijing on Wednesday night.

Featuring many of the singer's classic songs, Piaf Le Spectacle: La Vie en Rose, adapted by director Gil Marsalla and starring Anne Carrere and Nathalie Lermitte, made its debut in 2015. Since then, the production has toured to a number of cities around the world.

Known to the world for songs like "La Vie en rose" and "Non and Je ne regrette rien," Piaf specialized in chanson and torch ballads about love, loss and sorrow. She is remembered as France's national songstress and remains one of the country's most widely-known international stars.

After the Beijing leg of its tour, the show will move on to Foshan in South China's Guangdong Province, then Quanzhou and Xiamen in East China's Fujian Province.
