The curtain came down on an art fair at Songzhuang, Beijing's biggest artist community, on Sunday.

Under the theme of "The Light of Art," the 2019 Songzhuang Art Festival focused on the development of contemporary art and  avant-garde art in China. Given the fact that more than 90 percent of participants were artists living in the township of Songzhuang, in Beijing's Tongzhou district, the annual art festival has a reputation for being less commercial and more focused on pure art.

During the festival, several exhibitions were open to the public free of charge, include the Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, Local Artists, Young Artists' Show and Exchange of Chinese and French Artists

The festival this year attracted tens of thousands of visitors since opening on October 5.

Fifty art exhibitions from 14 institutions and galleries were held during the week.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Songzhuang Art Colony and the 14th year of the art festival.

Various artists and galleries within the art colony have jointly built a community of modern art and international communication over the last 25 years, local artist Fan Xu told media.

"Songzhuang is a place of freedom, flexibility and quietness, which is perfect for art creation. It is our second home; all the artists love the place and are willing to add to it as well,"noted one local artist.
