Apple's major supplier Foxconn said on Monday that some of its plants in the Chinese mainland are still recruiting new workers, and there have been no large-scale layoffs in the group, according to a statement the company sent to the Global Times.

The Global Times reported earlier that Foxconn's plants in Shenzhen, South China's Guangdong Province had reduced their recruitment numbers and cut jobs in non-essential segments as the factories were fully staffed. That came as Apple's orders were disrupted amid the global coronavirus outbreak.

In response, Foxconn said the "company has had no large-scale layoffs in the group as the resumption rate is high, thanks to well-established prevention and control work put in place." It added that seasonal labor demand had been met in advance in middle March.

As part of the company's work to address the coronavirus crisis, Foxconn's facilities in Shenzhen have conducted close to 100,000 medical checks for employees, including nucleic acid tests for 55,000 employees and chest X-rays for over 40,000 employees, according to the company's March statement.
