A woman in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin Province, provoked anger from passengers on a local tram after taking photos of herself wearing a backless outfit, triggering discussions over women's freedom of dress, The Paper reported.

The woman said that she had studied in Changchun for four years at college, and wanted to record some memories of the city.

Trams are a distinctive feature of Changchun, which is why she chose it as the shooting scene.

However, her actions annoyed one female passenger onboard, who said her revealing dress had a bad effect on children.

"I did not photograph the passengers on purpose, who were all wearing masks. If someone feels offended, they can tell me and I will get off the tram immediately," the woman said.

The topic sparked widespread controversy online. Some netizens believe that women should have the freedom to choose what they wear, while others thought her actions disrupted public order and infringed on the privacy of other passengers.
