A snowy-white fox has been spotted at Crescent Lake in Northwest China's Gansu Province. The young fox was not aggressive nor afraid of human contact, and even ate the food given to it by tourists, media reported Wednesday.

Local officials said it was the first time that a white fox had appeared in the area, and it was believed to be from the wild.

With food scarce during the winter, the white fox may have been strolling down the desert in search of something to eat, and eventually made its way to the scenic spot.

Staff at the scenic spot said they will continue to monitor the fox, and also reminded tourists not to feed it too much food or come into close contact.

"This is the first time that I've seen the white fox, which often appears in traditional Chinese stories," said a netizen on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
