Symphony concert opens virtual chapter for music

On Monday evening, the China National Opera House (CNOH) Symphony Orchestra's 2021 "Sound of the Sea" New Year Symphony Concert was performed at the Haidian Theater.

In line with Beijing's latest requirements on epidemic prevention and control, the Haidian District Culture and Tourism Bureau adjusted the concert to be streamed online only, canceling the offline tickets. More netizens could enjoy the first-class national performance while staying home. 

The concert's live stream attracted 2.27 million netizens, who were able to interact by watching together, giving "likes" and leaving comments. 

Right before the concert, the renowned chief permanent conductor of the CNOH sent his greetings to the online audience. Yuan said that the offline performance is a tradition and is known to interact with the audience in real-time, but brought limitations in audience reach. 2020 is a special year and the CNOH has developed a brand-new performance model. Through the online platform, more music fans could have access.

The new year's concert started at 7:30 pm with an excerpt from the first set of the French composer Bizet's opera Carmen, followed by Mozart's string serenade first movement, Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake suite and the opera Eugene Onegin.

Among the comments, the audience said they were inspired by the symphony's profound spiritual power. 

Some messages read: This is my favorite orchestra. Thank you, all artists for your wonderful performance.
