China maintains stable production and supply chains, according to Ning Jizhe, director of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday. In the fourth quarter of 2020, 25 out of 41 industries above the designated scale saw positive growth; five more than during the previous three months.

According to the NBS, industries above the designated level in 2020 increased 2.8 percent compared to the previous year. In December, 1.1 percent growth was registered compared to the previous month, 0.3 percentage points higher than November.

The total number of industries maintaining positive growth in December reached 35 (out of 41). Food processing, textiles, mechanics, as well as automobile manufacturing all saw positive growth in the last month of 2020.

In terms of product variety, 417 out of 612 products saw positive growth in December. According to the NBS, the production of steel increased 12.8 percent year-on-year in December at 120.34 million tons; and automobile production rose 6.5 percent to 2.804 million, of which 238,000 were new energy cars.

It is crucial to China's development strategies that stable and safe production and supply chains are achieved. Previously Ning said that China will improve the quality of its supply system, and build an independent supply chain that is safe and stable.
