Nanning local constructor breaks subway tunnel, fined 500,000 yuan

A local construction company in Nanning, the provincial capital of South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, damaged the subway tunnel wall on Friday and has been fined 500,000 yuan ($77.148 million).

Nanning Rail Transit Co (NNRT) announced through its official Sina Weibo on Friday that the tunnel wall of subway line one in Nanning city was intruded and the service was suspended. 

An investigation carried out by local authorities showed that a drill with a 9-centimeter diameter broke through the subway tunnel wall and intruded inside the tunnel by 98 centimeters. The drill damaged the subway train, fortunately no passenger was hurt. 

The accident caused a suspension of subway network operations that lasted for nearly two hours. According to the related security policies, the construction company was fined with 500,000 yuan.
