Man jumps out of car to avoid COVID-19 check-up worrying he was infected and may not pass test

A man jumped out of a moving car on a highway in Southwest China's Guizhou Province after believing he had become infected with coronavirus and might not pass the nucleic acid test required to return to his hometown. 

In a video posted by KNews on Saturday,The man, surnamed Shi, was seen covered with a blanket and taken to an ambulance by police after jumping out of the car. He only suffered slight injuries.

Shi was worried that he might have been infected with COVID-19, as he had been coughing and come under great mental pressure recently, his brother, who was also in the car, told police.

He said Shi didn't want to go back to his hometown as he was afraid that he might get a positive nucleic acid test result for COVID-19.

Police later told the media that Shi had been mentally unstable recently and suddenly got the idea to attempt suicide on the way back to his hometown. 

"He needs professional psychiatric treatment, as he seems to have become very stressed out," one netizen said, while expressing her sympathy for Shi in a comment on Sina Weibo.
