A romance/fantasy web series produced by Sohu TV will debut on Monday so viewers can enjoy it over the Spring Festival holiday.

The series Wodechongwu, shaojiangjun (lit: my pet, young general) tells the love story of a human being and a prince from a cat planet.

A woman who finds a mysterious bead by accident wakes up a prince from a planet of cats. Fortunately for the woman, the alien cat can transform himself into a handsome man. The two establish a contract to work together to uncover the secrets behind some strange incidents.

According to the studio, the series, which is targeting young audiences, is different from traditional costume dramas in that it is fast paced, has less tense plots and will feature surprising stories to amuse audiences.

Cats are rather popular in China. The revenue of China's pet industry exceeded 2.4 trillion yuan ($36.7 billion) by the end of 2020 and cats are one of most popular pets for young Chinese. There were more than 30 million pet cats in China in 2016, the second highest amount in the world.

The series is directed by Wu Qiang, who also directed the web series Well-Intended Love, which debuted in January 2019 on Chinese streaming service Sohu and began streaming on Netflix in May 2019.
