Chinese Uber-like freight company Huolala made an announcement on Wednesday apologizing for the recent death of a 23-year-old woman.

According to Huolala, the woman jumped out from the window of the passenger seat as the van driver was taking her to her new residence on the night of February 6. The woman eventually died after being sent to hospital and the driver was criminally detained.

Following several incidents involving female passengers during their rents of taxis, the discussion topics of this incident had been keeping in top places on the search trending list on Chinese social media for several days.

In the announcement, Huolala also said the company had been forgiven by the families of the victim and the company will conduct series of rectifications to the platform including adding additional security departments and more employees to operate.
