A recent post by a popular military blogger has stirred up quite a bit of turbulence on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo, not only because it touched on the moving speech Chinese martyr Xiao Siyuan's mom gave during a media interview after losing her son, but also because some commenters have made the cruel accusation that the grieving mother is being "selfish" and "thoughtless."

Blogger 'Four Minutes Thirty Three Seconds' posted on Sina Weibo on Sunday said that he couldn't help but burst into tears while watching the video footage of Xiao's mom. He explained that in the video, the mother mentioned that her boy was too young to lose his life, and that she may have been better able to overcome his loss if her son had married or had children before he gave his life for his country.

The mother's words quickly grabbed netizens' attention on Sina Weibo. While some shared the blogger's feelings of extreme sorrow for the woman who had lost her son, others revealed harder hearts by leaving harsh and critical comments.

"By saying it would have been better for her son to have died after having children or a wife, this means she never thought about how painful it would be for a wife without a husband or a kid without a dad… She is selfish by only thinking about the 'legacy' that can make her life easier since her son is not here anymore," posted a netizen on Sina Weibo.

"The martyr is a good figure, but his mom is thoughtless," a group of netizens copy-and-pasted the same message throughout the comments to the blogger's post on Tuesday.

The surging number of ridiculous reactions to the mother's words left the majority of netizens unable to hold back their anger. They quickly jumped forward to defend Xiao's mother.

"They must be really twisted inside to come up with such interpretations. I think the woman mentioned marriage and kids just to seek for some forms of continuation for her son after she found out he is gone forever," explained a netizen on Sina Weibo.

"Is she not allowed to seek for any consolation when facing such an unusual life tragedy? There are many hot topics on Sina Weibo; go somewhere else to find the attention that makes you do these disgusting things," said another.

These netizens who have misinterpreted this mother's words have certainly missed or deliberately ignored something else that she has said: "Our country needs people like him to safeguard it."

Xiao Siyuan, a young soldier who was born in 1996 in Central China's Henan Province, used his body as a shield to cover his comrade from a hail of stones during the battle. Along with him, three other heroes sacrificed their lives during the Galwan Valley border clash with India, igniting people's feelings of pride and sorrow for them as well as leaving their families in pain that may last forever.
