During his meeting with Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Sunday, Vice Premier Han Zheng said he hopes Hong Kong government will carefully implement the National People's Congress (NPC)'s decision on the city's electoral reforms, the NPC Standing Committee's rectification of annexes of the Basic Law and carry out relevant work on local legislation.

Han told Lam to prioritize prevention of COVID-19 as the Hong Kong government's task. He stressed the Hong Kong government should carefully implement the NPC's decision on the city's electoral reform, to make sure the "one country, two systems" principle in the city is heading to the right track.

Han's remarks came after a draft decision on improving the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was submitted to China's top legislature on Friday, when the fourth session of the 13th NPC opened in Beijing.

Lam expressed gratitude for the central government support for Hong Kong. The HKSAR government will perform its duty according to the central government's requirements to safeguard the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, Lam said.

Han on Sunday also met Macao Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng. During the meeting, Han said that he hopes Macao will further improve its legal system and mechanisms to maintain national security to accomplish the electoral work of Macao's Legislative Assembly.

Macao should seize the opportunity of the central government supported project to build a Guangdong-Macao "intensive cooperation zone" in Hengqin port in the neighboring city of Zhuhai, to push forward the city's diversified economic development and play a positive role in the country's new development pattern.

Ho also expressed gratitude for the central government's support.
