A cosmetic surgery company in Zhengzhou, Central China's Henan Province, has come under investigation for illegal operations after having its trainees stick needles in each other's eyelids in preparation for double eyelid surgery.

According to reports from local media, people who signed up for the training program were requested to pay 10,000 yuan ($1,500) and buy a tool kit for 600 yuan, which included scissors, needles and suture for the surgery.

Trainees were asked to practice conducting the operation on each other under the instruction of the company staff, who had no medical qualifications. Some even cried from fear that they might hurt the person they were practicing on, even though the head of the training program denied there was any potential health risk, said the report.

The local health supervision authorities have launched an investigation into the company for illegal operations. The company has returned the registration fee to the trainees and suggested they go to hospital to remove the stitches and have checkups on their eyes.
